Childhood immunization is very important for every child. Immunization helps in keeping the child away from life threatening diseases. There are several diseases like polio and measles. If not for the vaccinations, the annual incidents of such diseases would be much higher. If children are not given vaccinations, then they become much prone to sicknesses.
Some illnesses have a life long impact on children. Before every child attends school they have to get a standard set of vaccinations, like measles, polio, HiB, tetanus and a few more.
All vaccinations are effective on a child. If you want to know how vaccinations work, talk to the doctor. There is no standard procedure that is used to determine if a specific vaccine was effective. Some people believe that if the vaccination leaves a scar or gives a fever, then it is effective. However, these are no measures that the vaccination has worked on the child. There are some vaccines that work for a lifetime, and some vaccines have to be repeated periodically.
Vaccines are effective in all people who have taken them and not got the disease. They are not administered to children because they are effective but to prevent the likelihood of some diseases from occurring. There is a possibility of not getting the disease at all but still vaccination is just a safety measure. Diseases like polio make the person handicapped forever. There is no reversal or treatment for such a disease. When treatments and cures are unavailable, it is best to protect your child by ensuring that he or she receives appropriate vaccines.
