Social researchers and psychologists believe that cyberbullying problems can be divided in 7 categories, namely flaming, online harassment, cyberstalking, exclusion, denigration, impersonation, and outing. It is believed that this form of bullying has evolved from the face-to-face bullying, but the fact that the Internet offers the bullies anonymity, and this allows the bullies to exercise certain amount of dominance, which otherwise is not possible with traditional form of bullying.
In addition, the anonymity lets the cyberbullies have a false sense of security as well as power and this causes them to lose their inhibitions. Many cyberbullies feel that they have to indulge in this form of bullying as they know of others indulging into it. Ironically, students who have been victims of traditional bullying can end up becoming cyberbullies in order to vent out their frustrations.
The impact on a cyberbullying victim is the most profound as the bullying never ceases, not even in the security of the victim's home. This can make the victim anxious, fearful, introvert and depressed. In addition, anything posted online is available for all to see, regardless of whether they know the victim or not. This causes the victim to feel that he or she has no place to escape to.
Cyberbulling problems should not be neglected. It can lead to suicide, anorexia or even murder if the bullying is serious. The society, schools, communities and parents have to work together to overcome cyberbullying problems, otherwise victims will carry their frustration from home to school and back.More Articles :
