Child obesity should be addressed and not brushed under the carpet by parents. Many parents, unfortunately, keep saying that their children have puppy fat, which will disappear when they get older. This is primarily because they do not want to acknowledge that their child has a problem. Instead of turning a blind eye to child obesity, parents should try to figure out what to do.
A fact -- child obesity is the result of eating unhealthy food, processed food and high-calorie food without having sufficient physical activity. Yes, when kids are small, they look cute with all the fat rolls and chubby cheeks. But this cuteness is dangerous, if not outright lethal. Hence, if the parents eat healthily, children will be more conducive to eating healthily. Also, rather than feeding kids junk food and processed foods, which are easy to make, parents should spend a little time in cooking balanced meals. If parents are working, they can cook the meals before hand and keep in the freezer. All that will be required would be to heat the food, which can be done using a microwave.
Also, children should be encouraged to drink fresh juices without sugar, milk and plain water rather than sodas and other sugar-laden beverages. Ensure that unhealthy snacks are not kept in the house. Instead encourage children to eat fruits and fresh vegetables when they are feeling like nibbling in between meals. Growing your own fruits and vegetables can be an incentive to kids to consume them.
Having family activities together, like walking, working in the garden, taking the dog for a walk, washing the car, mowing the lawn, or playing a sport together can give exercise to both parents and children and help in burning calories, which turn into fat.
