It is only by checking out child obesity statistics will you realize how widespread this problem is. Just a couple of decades ago, child obesity was not an issue. For instance, between the years 1971 and 1974, just 5 percent of kids between 2 years and 5 years were overweight. However, between the years 2003 and 2004 around 13.9 percent children in the same age group were obese. This clearly shows that child obesity has become an epidemic in today's world.
Even older kids, between 6 years and 11 years are obese. Around 18.8 percent are believed to be obese in the US. And the last category comprising of kids between the ages of 12 years and 19 years, about 17.4 percent are obese.
These child obesity statistics reveal a gory picture, which most people are not willing to accept. Most children who are obese will have health problems and grow up to be obese adults. It is possible that why many reality-based programs have sprung up in the US where obese people lose weight over a period of time, and those who lose the most weight are the winners of these programs. Some shows even get obese couples in their programs. As entertaining as it can be for others or as motivating it can be for other obese people, the fact remains that obesity begins during childhood. If children learn to eat healthy food during childhood, then child obesity statistics as well as adult obesity statistics will come down.More Articles :
