When it comes to statistics on child discipline, most of the information that you will find will be related to corporal punishment. In fact, many parents believe that spanking a child is necessary for disciplining the child. In fact, in the US, when a survey was conducted, 94 percent parents with toddlers acknowledged that they had used some form of corporal punishment, and nearly 35 percent of infants are hit.
Even older children are subjected to some form spanking. For instance, nearly 28.4 percent parents acknowledged that they used some object or the other to spank bottoms of their children aged between two years and four years; and 28 percent of parents of children aged between 5 years and 8 years also acknowledged the same this. This survey was conducted by Gallup.
These statistics can be quite frightening as it appears that one in four parents has admitted to using an object to spank and hit their child all for disciplining the child. Some parents also use psychological aggression to discipline a child. Around 13 percent parents use this method of disciplining, which includes yelling, screaming, and shouting at the child, and also calling the child unpleasant names.
In fact, many parents end up using the same methods of discipline that their parents used, and find nothing wrong is using harsh methods as these methods are the only ones that they know. And the weirdest part is that statistics on child discipline also shows that nearly 31 percents have finally acknowledged that the methods used by them to discipline their child are actually not effective!
