Discipline For A Strong Willed Child

A strong-willed child can be adamant or just more determined. However, in such a case, the problem with the child arises only when they are being stubborn for the wrong things. Disciplining such a child will take some effort and patience. Parents or teacher have to be focused in their disciplining. First of all understand your child, and see why they are being adamant.

If it is something that can be sorted out over a little talk, then you can deal with it. However, if the child is being unreasonably demanding, then you have use harsher techniques for disciplining.

There is no standard rule for disciplining an adamant child, and it is the same as for any other child. There are only stronger rules, and you have to make sure the child is following it.

Here are some tips you can use to discipline an extremely adamant and strong-willed child.

• Use the classic time out principle. If your child does something wrong, then put them in a corner for at least 5 minutes.
• Take away some privileges like television, computer or music for some time. Keep them grounded.
• If a certain action is undesirable, then try to make it extinct. Make sure your child will not do it again. Be firm and also sensitive of your child’s feelings at the same time.
• If your child is misbehaving constantly, shake him up physically and ask to stop. Sometimes children do not realize how aggressive they get.
• In some cases it could just be hunger causing the misbehavior. So, make sure that your child is not hungry.
