Can Testosterone Levels Affect Rls ?

A research conducted by Boston’s Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital says men in their old age, who are suffering from restless leg syndrome or RLS, are at higher risk of suffering from erectile dysfunction.

RLS is known to cause sleep deprivation, which in turn affects the levels of testosterone in the body. When testosterone levels decrease, it leads to ED. So, indirectly, RLS and testosterone are connected with one another.

A study researcher says that there is no proof that ED is caused by RLS, but some symptoms are common in both the cases. A study researcher says that there are lots of things to know as this is only the first study conducted.

Twelve million Americans are said to be suffering from restless legs syndrome. More and more people might be suffering but they are either under diagnosed or misdiagnosed. The characteristics of RLS are moving the legs when in sleep to help oneself to find relief from burning, pins and needles sensation, and tugging.

Men and women are affected by this disease and the people in old age and middle age suffer from this disease.

In an analysis conducted, the report says that men who are suffering from erectile dysfunction are 4 times at risk of getting Parkinson’s disease. The researchers started to study ED and RLS because both the disorders are related to neurological problems.

Men who go through 14 RLS a month are 16 percent more at a risk of getting ED when compared to men who are not suffering from RLS. If there is a relation between restless leg syndrome and erectile dysfunction, then dopamine will help in regulating the mood and movement.

If the dopamine in the brain is not adequate may be the cause of RLS and Parkinson’s disease. It may also cause erectile dysfunction.
