Types Of Std Diseases

STDs are those diseases which are transmitted to one’s body by way of sexual contact, homosexual or heterosexual, and do not always involve penetration. Some common STDs are gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV/AIDS, herpes, pubic lice, Chlamydia, trichomoniasis and genital warts.

Most people are not aware when they first contract these infections, and it is not possible to tell by looking at them too. A majority of the STDs are curable within a couple of weeks. If left untreated, the diseases have the ability of turning fatal. When it comes to the types of STD diseases, there are primarily three types -- viral, bacterial, and insects.

STDs caused by bacteria are temporary and respond well to medication, and are easy to get rid of. These include gonorrhea, which can result in heart ailments, infertility, blindness, arthritis, harm to the urinary tract or the fetus; Chlamydia, which can cause cancer of the cervix and infertility; syphilis, which damages the nervous system, causes loss of sight and hearing, heart diseases, madness and stillborn birth or disfigurement in the baby; and finally there is chancroid, which results in sores in the genitals and the enlarging of the lymph nodes.

Viral STDs are deadly -- once you get a virus-caused STD, it will always be present in your body. These STDs are usually dormant and can flare up at any occasion. Humanpapilloma Virus (HPV) is the one that leads to genital warts occasionally; Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) causes aching blisters inside the mouth and/or in the vaginal region; while Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remains dormant but is life-threatening when it surfaces.
Insects known as arthropods also transmit STDs, and using certain medicated ointments can help get rid of them. The most common bugs are crabs or pubic lice, and scabies.
