Some STDs affect the skin in or around the genitals as well as the rest of the body. Proper identification and treatment are very important to get rid of the infection as soon as possible. |
An STD that is common among women is the HPV, or the Humanpapilloma Virus. It causes small and painful warts that are located in the genital region and/or in the anal region. The warts are pink or brownish in color, and can be either raised or flat. Men can easily spot these since they present either along the penis or at the base of the penis. However, women get them inside the vagina. At times, the warts can be present on labia. HPV is very dangerous as it can cause cervical cancer in women. The HPV warts can be excised with the help of an acid or by way of liquid nitrogen.
Genital herpes is another common STD, and result in painful blisters around the vagina, penis and/or anus. Unfortunately there is cure as yet for genital herpes, but they can be kept under check with the use of anti-viral medicines.
Then there is the deadly STD called syphilis, which first shows up through rashes and bumps. Though it can be easily controlled if detected early, left untreated, syphilis can cause blindness, dementia, brain damage, paralysis, even death.
Lastly, there are those skin infections which do not really qualify as STDs but are equally bothersome. A common condition is called scabies, which are small parasites that spread through skin contact, and cause a strong itching sensation.
