Prostate cancer is very difficult to find in the early stages, and in many cases it is found when the disease has reached advanced stages. Prostate cancer can be first known when the doctors test the blood sample with the blood test which is known as prostate specific antigen or PSA. This test is done on patients who have crossed certain age. Sometimes this test is not done, so the men who have gone through a medical checkup, which is routine, may not know they have prostate cancer. If the test is not done, the indications will come to light slowly. |
The first indication of prostate cancer is the frequency of urination and a man cannot control the urine flow. Urinating may also cause some pain. As the disease advances the frequency of urination increases and the patients will have to wake in the middle of the night to urinate, and the urination will become more painful. Even the sexual life will become difficult and there will be pain during ejaculation and blood can appear in the semen. This may indicate the problem in prostate but may not always be cancer. This may be a symptom of prostate enlargement, which is known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. It can be cured easily at early stages, but if the patient neglects it may become difficult to treat.
These symptoms may also indicate prostate cancer in some cases. If it is known early and treated, prostate cancer can be cured. But if it has crossed the prostate gland and spread to other neighboring tissues, treatment will be difficult. And, if it spreads to the other parts of the body the treatment becomes impossible.
