Erectile dysfunction must always be treated under the supervision of a registered medical practitioner. It has often been found that the root cause of this problem has been an un healthy lifestyle, like chronic alcohol consumption or use of recreational drugs, use of tobacco, lack of physical exercise and poor eating habits like a diet that is made of only processed and/or fast foods. |
A number of doctors turn to herbal medicines for treating patients who suffer from erectile dysfunction. A strong reason for advocating these herbs is that they usually have no harmful side effects, provided of course, the usage is under medical supervision and as advised. At times, people have complained of stomach troubles or headaches after using herbal medicines, but these can only occur if the preparation is not of the highest quality. Hence, when using herbal medicines, it is mandatory that only those of the purest qualities are consumed. Just like all other drugs, overdosing on herbal medicines too can lead to unwanted side effects.
One particular herb that has been traditionally used to treat men with this condition is Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng). Damiana (Turnera diffusa) is another herb that was traditionally used to treat sexual disorders. However there are no studies conducted on these two herbs to support their effectiveness.
Ginkgo biloba is an herb that is used because of its ability to blood flow through the arteries, while Muira puama (Ptychopetalum olacoides) is known to be effective in cases of absence of libido and erectile dysfunction. The commonly used herbal supplement yohimbe must be taken in careful doses, since it can cause heart failure if used excessively.
