Overweight Men Health Problems

Overweight men face increased risks from major illnesses, and some of the conditions get more serious in nature as the body weight keeps increasing. Being obese is no longer about how a man looks; it governs the overall quality of his life.

Health risks are also determined by how body fat is dispersed on a man. For instance, if a man has a 'beer gut' or a 'love handle', which is fat accumulated around the abdominal region and belly, he is more at risk than someone with excess weight on his thighs and hips. If a man’s waist measures over forty inches, he is more susceptible to coronary artery disease, Type 2 diabetes, elevated blood pressure and high cholesterol, when compared to a man of normal weight, or even one with fat accumulated around the thighs and the hip region.

Some of the common health issues that overweight men face are heart attack, CAD, heart ailments, heart failure, angina, abnormal heartbeat, elevated blood pressure, elevated levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, stroke, Type 2 diabetes which is not the kind you are born with but develops later, arthritis, memory issues, learning problems, asthma, shallow breathing or Pickwickian syndrome, which may lead one to a heart condition, sleep apnea or snoring and having problems in breathing while asleep, cholesterol issues that can easily lead to heart diseases, reduce the levels of good cholesterol, a host of cancers, which include cancers of the prostrate, gallbladder, colorectal and kidney, a number of liver ailments like a fatty or enlarged liver, and GERD.
