Chlomid With Male Infertility Problems

Clomid is the most popular fertility drug on the market. It is the brand name for clomiphene citrate which is also sold under other brand names. Clomid is generally used by women as it has a direct bearing on ovulation in women suffering from female infertility.

Clomid has a high rate of success resulting in conception in about 40 to 45 percent of cases within six cycles of use.

Male infertility can be caused for a number of reasons, physical, psychological and due to host of other factors. A little known fact is that male infertility is more common than thought. About 50 percent of infertility between couples can be traced back to male infertility.

One of the prime causes of male infertility is the production of poor quality of sperm. By this is meant the sperm count could be low. There are certain parameters laid down for what is considered healthy semen which should be suitable for fertilization. Some of these are:

Clomid is known to stimulate the pituitary gland in men resulting in the increased production of sperm in infertile men. Logically this should translate into better chances of conception in such couples. Unfortunately, this does not happen and things do not work out in this manner.

It is clear that a relationship exists between Clomid and improved semen quality. It is too early to state conclusively that there are any benefits with use of the drug in male infertility.
