When it comes to teenage pregnancies, some how there is a lot of advice for girls and there are several people telling them what the right thing to do is. However, when it comes to teenage boys, who are going to be fathers, there is very little spoken and hardly any information on a teenage father's rights. |
However, it takes two people to get pregnant. So, the boy is in as much as turmoil as the girl is. A teenage boy knows nothing about fatherhood or his legal rights. There are not enough resources available to tell him everything he ought to know.
As a teenager, every boy has the right to know whether he is the father of the child and the right to get a DNA test performed. Paternity test is allowed for teenagers too. This is not for proving your partner right or wrong, but because fatherhood is a life long commitment and you have the right to know.
Also, as the father, you have the right of access to the baby and participate in the child’s future. You can ensure that the child’s needs are met, and also well cared for. If the child is being given for adoption, then the prospective parents should take your consent too.
The same goes for abortion also. As a parent, you should also give the consent for it. Just like your parents decide for you and make a joint decision; even you have the right to decide for your child’s future. Several people try to take advantage of the situation by keeping your age in mind, but you need to know that they cannot override your rights.
