Father In Law Problems

In every marriage, there is bound to be some problems with the in-laws just like you have with your own better half. They are a part and parcel of life, and one should know how to deal with the situation.  If in-laws live with you, there is going to be a lot of friction, and one has to learn to deal with it rather than just calling it quits.

Among the in-laws problems, daughter-in-law and father-in-law are two people who are bound to have too many problems or may not get along too well. The relationship always takes extreme forms.

If your father-in-law is in the senior age category, then exercise a little more patience with him. Try to divert his mind, and see if they can get into activities which will keep him occupied. Most old people are just like children, and get troublesome due to inactivity.

If your father-in-law is retired, but not that old, then talk it out with him along with your partner. Home may not be the right environment to do that. So, take him out for lunch or dinner and gently broach the topic. Try to make him understand your point of view also. Address the topics only where you have disagreements, and not the whole relationship aspect. Do not show that you do not care.

Try to get your father-in-law enrolled in some adult classes and activities that best suits his age and health. It may be gym, yoga classes, recreation, day care, or adult groups. There are several resources for retired and the old in the United States, and you just need to make an effort to find the right activity to keep your father-in-law happy and satisfied.
