Definition Of Authority Figure

The definition of authority figure in the English language is to define a person who has the strength, authority, position and power to decide for others. It could be a general in the army, or the president of the country, or even a parent of a child. All these people have the power to decide for others, and that is why they are called an authority figure.

People, who are controlled by authority figures, have to listen to their superiors, and act accordingly. For instance, children do what they are told to by their parents, or the people of a country listen to their president. However, there is no force to listen, and it is done out of love and respect towards the authority figure.

In the religious sense, the term authority figure is used to describe God. Many people depend on God, and that is why we go to the church for prayers. Several people pray because they are looking for answers for their doubts or questions. Not only in Christianity, but in several cultures across the world people have authority figures in the form of gods and chiefs. The chiefs hold a position of great respect that is born out of love. It is unlike dictatorship where people are forced to do things against their will. In religion, people willingly surrender, and that kind of a thing happens only with the supernatural power of God. As per theology, people find the courage and peace in the name of god, and in the end they find what they are looking for within themselves. All that matters is the belief.
