The key to being good parents after a divorce is to build a parenting plan together. So what exactly is a parenting plan? It is a tool that all parents could use to decide before hand on how the children will spend time with each parent, how they are going to spend their holidays, and when will they be staying with each parent. |
A parent plan includes every kind of factor that could spark off a disagreement between couples. When you file for divorce, you may not be thinking about the repercussions in the most fragmented way, and will be concerned only with the big picture. However, when you have children, these fragmented parts magnify and start looking like bigger problems. The children will go through more insecurity even after the divorce because of these problems. When a parenting plan exists, the law sets the basic rules for sharing the custody, and you follow the rules. It is much simpler that way as you get to keep mutual respect as a divorced couple.
A parenting plan will even decide where the kids should spend the Christmas and with whom they should spend Thanksgiving. This also applies to other important events of their lives like graduations day, sports and other events. Birthdays are also an important day that is covered. However, while drafting a parenting plan, agreement and consent of both the parents is taken.
However couples should understand that they should not compete for the same thing. They should let go of one and get something else in return.
