Visitation Schedule And Parenting Plan

Visitation schedule means a legally approved schedule for the parent, who is visiting the child. A parenting plan is not the same as visitation schedule. Visitation schedule comes into picture when there is one parent who is the custodian, and the other just has visiting rights. It could be on a weekly basis or on a monthly basis.

There are three kinds of visitation schedules. The basic schedule is very simple, and it outlines the time the parent can spend time with the child. Like one parent can have the child on weekends, and the other parent keeps them for the whole week. It is also possible to have the kids for alternate weekends. It basically depends on how the couple has worked it out in the court.

Another type of visitation schedule is dividing the holidays. For instance, the children can spend their one holiday with one parent. Even the holidays are divided fairly. Like, one parent gets one big holiday each and even the smaller holidays like long weekends are divided equally. For example, Christmas with one parent and Thanksgiving with the other parent.

A separate visitation schedule is also decided for vacation and special events. Vacation can be pretty long like two months at a stretch. During this time how much time each parent would be spending with their children is set forth. Special days are sporting events, annual day or graduation day. Mostly both the parents would be allowed, but it all depends on the profile of the individual case.
