Long distance parenting plans are for couples that live apart from each other. They may be living in separate states or in different countries. In case the child is attending public school in the United States, then their convenience is given first importance and then accordingly their lodging plan is decided.
The long distance parenting plan encourages a common dialogue between the parents so that they can cooperate with each other and work out their schedules. The parents are allowed to plan their schedules voluntarily. The model encourages parents to talk to each other frequently, and also to work out on their own how their children should spend their time. If the parents have joint legal custody, then they have equal power to make decisions. The parenting plan will contain an outline of do’s and don’ts. Mainly because long distance travel is a very dicey thing, and the plans can keep changing, parents cannot approach the court every time there has been a change in the plan. That is why a lot of flexibility is given for making the plan. However, stress is laid on facts like both the parents should get equal time to spend with their children.
