Tradional Fathers Day Dinner

Fathers Day is a day to rejoice and celebrate. It is the day to show a father how much he is loved, appreciated and cherished by his children and the rest of the family. What can be better than cooking a traditional Father's Day meal and watching your father smack his lips and smile?

Roast Turkey:

  1. Wash bird well and pat dry with a kitchen towel.
  2. Make a paste of garlic, pepper, salt and vinegar and rub well into turkey on all sides. (The bird has to be pricked and forked well for the spices to permeate).
  3. Set the bird aside for an hour.
  4. Make stuffing and stuff into bird from the stomach side.
  5. Close the gap by stitching or with tooth picks.
  6. Now make sure the oven is well heated. Place turkey on a wire rack on top of tray and allow the juices to drip.
  7. Turn the turkey after 40 minutes.
  8. Smear butter on top of turkey and bake for another 30 minutes. Continue roasting till fully cooked and till all sides are golden brown.

Stuffing:

  1. A loaf of bread cut into pieces
  2. Add salt, pepper and vinegar according to taste
  3. Herbs like mint and cilantro
  4. 1 onion
  5. Lightly fry minced onion.
  6. To the above mix all the other ingredients
  7. Stuff into turkey before baking
  8. Serve roast turkey with roast potatoes, and fried sausages decorated around it.

Salad:

Shredded cabbage, green and red peppers cut small, broccoli cut small, blanched carrots and cooked green peas. Mix all; season with olive oil, salt and pepper. Add the mayonnaise according to taste and then mix and toss the salad.

Garlic Bread:

1 roll of baguette bread. Slice it almost down to the bottom but not till the bottom. Mix garlic paste and butter. Apply on each slice and also on top and sides of the roll. Wrap in aluminum foil and bake in a pre-heated oven till done. The foil can be opened for the last few minutes in the oven. This helps in making the garlic bread crisp.
