Teaching Kindergarten Music

Children love music, and kindergarten children also love music. However, when it comes to teaching them music, it becomes a totally different ball game altogether. Teaching music and making them listen to it are two different things. While teaching music to children, teachers cannot have long sessions. It can become very boring for the children, and they may soon lose interest. So, make sure your sessions are short to start with.

A fifteen minutes session will make it enjoyable for children and also, they will start looking forward for the music lessons. Any teacher can teach kindergarten child only if they have their attention. Once a child loses attention and interest, there is not much any teacher can do.

It is crucial for a teacher to hold the child’s interest. Music at this age cannot be of serious type. Children love uncomplicated rhymes and songs. For example, songs from a movie like Sound Of Music can be very interesting for them. Keep the songs short and also play some instrumental music along with it. Rhythms should be plain and easy for children to grasp. You can introduce different notes, but they should be simple. Also, songs with short sentences should be preferred.

You can teach various songs to children by breaking it down to smaller parts. Children learn very quickly and as they progress you can keep adding to the songs. A child cannot remember more than 10 lines of a rhyme or song at a time. However, once they learn it, they are unlikely to forget.
