Children grow at different paces however they all stick to a similar time line. Some children grow very fast and develop quickly. Some are slower and do everything at the end of development timeline. However, when the children grow up, they more or less become equals. This development has no bearing on the child’s health unless there are clear indications of a growth problem. |
After birth, children first lose weight in the initial weeks. However, by the end of the first month, they start putting on weight. Breast fed babies gain more weight than bottle fed or formula fed babies. After six months, breast fed babies slow down in weight gain and bottle fed babies tend to gain more weight. However, after the first year of their life the build of the baby depends on their genes and also eating habits.
A chart that indicates the growth, height and weight of the baby is called a percentile chart. It compares the child’s growth in general. On an overall scale, the baby’s growth is at full peak from birth to 24 months after which they slow down quite a bit. In the first part of these two years, from birth to six months, babies almost double their weight every month and this can be noted through a percentile chart.
The height increase, on the other hand, is gradual. By the time the baby is 6 months old they grow taller, but since they are lying down most of the time you do not realize. However, when they start walking, they stand at least two feet tall.
