Religion And Adolescents

In the United States, you find less people who are religious today. The reason is people have formed their own beliefs and view points and look at religion as god. However a few decades ago religion was considered to be more than god and it was a source of discipline and orderliness.

If you want your adolescent to be religious, then you should show faith in it yourself. Being religious does not mean you have to be conservative. You can be open minded, and segregate religion from orthodox rules. Adolescent children become reticent towards religion mainly because they think it is old fashioned and orthodox.

However, religion can bring out several positive changes in children. By attending Sunday mass alone, they can become spiritually inclined at a young age. Spirituality is a must for everyone, including the young and old. It brings about emotional intelligence, and children also learn to deal with difficult situations with maturity. In addition, they tend to be less materialistic. Positive traits like sharing, caring and generosity can develop early in age by being religious.

When adolescents see religion as an important part of their lives, they are less likely to smoke, drink and abuse drugs. Also, they are more compassionate as human beings. When they are faced with personal problems, they tend to turn to prayers and seek strength from God. They do not take to bad habits as a concierge. Several adverse circumstances can be avoided and right direction can be given to troubled children suing religion.
