Adolescents are children who are in the age group of 12 to 15. They are curious by nature, and like to explore all the things in life whether it is good for them or not. For a parent, it is the most difficult time to bring up an adolescent into a responsible teenager. If parents neglect their children during this age, then it is impossible for them to reverse any damage. |
Children start smoking, alcohol and drug abuse, and also become victims of sexual abuse at this age mostly. They are at the brink of emotional maturity, and if they do not form the right ideas, then they are in for doom.
An adolescent can turn to drug and alcohol abuse if the home environment is not safe. For example, if the parents are going through a divorce, then it could be a very disturbing situation for the teenager. They feel extremely insecure and find solace in such habits.
Smoking is also a big danger at this age. Parents, who smoke, are exposing and encouraging their own children to take up such habits. They can easily get access to cigarettes and alcohol through their parents. Adolescent also abuse drugs so that they come across as cool to their friends. They look important, and get a lot of attention. However, they do not have the maturity to see through that it is all negative attention, and for the wrong things. If drug abuse becomes persistent at this age, then it could easily become an addiction.
